YouTube & Beauty

I've been saying forever that I want to start doing video tutorials on my blog, but to be totally honest, I'm scared to put myself out there in that way! Like pretty much every other girl out there, I stay up way later than I should watching everything from Cara, of the blog Maskcara, highlight and contour to Mr. Kate, doing the perfect sock bun. How do they make everything look so easy?!

When I try to film mine in my bathroom I look like, well.. a girl in her bathroom filming on her computer. It's not good. So, thats where I need YOUR help! For all of you that have done the "YouTube" thing, what am I doing wrong? Is there something I need to invest in that will make this whole thing much easier? Give me all your tips!

In the meantime here are some of my favorite YouTube channels:

Maskcara Jaclyn Hill Mr. Kate Elle Fowler MMandLShow Kandee Johnson

Who are your favorites? What do you like about them? What kind of things would you like me do? Let me know in the comments!

• Go for it, Emily! Would love to see yours! I love Jaclyn and Kandee as well, also missglamorazzi is great and with awesome editing!

• I am addicted to all things Mascara.. If she blogs it, I believe it like it's the gospel. I am so excited for you to start beauty videos!! My favorite videos include hair tutorials for things like braids or curl techniques, Shadow/liner application, and just general posts about awesome products! Can't wait for your videos!! Xoxo

• Emilynoel83, tiffanyd, pixiwoo, Kristin Gehm.

• Jaclyn Hill, Nicole Guerriero, Carli Bybel, Amanda Ensing, Casey Holmes !

• I love, love, love LeighAnnSays: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeZn7qRN3JKVcEYK_dDg7JQ. The most important thing is to just let your personality SHINE! I watched your Bachelor recaps on YouTube and enjoyed them. Just be yourself! Good luck, Emily, you will be wonderful!

• My favorite YouTube vlogger is MakeupByTiffanyD. She is mature, southern, with great taste and does videos on more than just beauty but also fashion and home decor. You would love her! She is great at posting on a very regular basis with a variety of video topics and supplements all her videos with blog posts throughout the week with more in depth reviews and pictures.

One trick to good videos is a quality camera and the lighting. Getting some professional lighting to brighten up your face or filming facing a window helps a lot with making things like higher quality. Good luck! Would love to see video tutorials or reviews from you!

• Don't you know Michelle Money of MmandL?! She's the best!! Also love Carli Bybel, Missglamourazzi and LolaMarie7! I seriously cannot wait to watch your channel and learn from the very best! I look up to your fashion style so much and absolutley love your blog and makeup and hair styles! Xo

• I would love to watch you on YouTube. I don't do videos but I know most of the girls talk about how you should have a good camera and lighting. Try looking up videos about those things to give you an idea. But, I love watching "Get Ready With Me", "Monthly Favorites", "Skin Care" and tutorials for different makeup looks, just to throw you some ideas! I am so excited, I cannot wait to watch! :)

• I would love to see videos from you! You have such a fun personality so just try to be yourself in the videos. Technically speaking I would invest in a higher quality camera and some lighting. I think that makes a huge difference!

• This just made my day. :) I don't do videos on YT but I know most of the girls talk about how you should have a good camera (good video quality) and lighting. I think those are key. I love watching "Get Ready With Me", "Monthly Favorites", "Skin Care Routines", and tutorials for different makeup looks just to throw you some ideas. I am so excited, I cannot wait to watch.I'm sure you'll be racking in the subscribers in no time. Love you Em!:)

• Carli bybel and makeup by camila. Both are pros at filming beauty tutorials!

• Holly chastain (beautybyholly) i love her southern accent and sweet demeanor.
Mmandl of course because they give the best tips and arent afraid to be real! Its like chatting with a girlfriend when i watch their videos, and they are SO FUNNY! They are not afraid to step out of the box. I love their little tidbits of life in general, and being a woman and friend. Oh and i Also love their healthy lifestyle videos!
I also love Lisalisad1, she is southern as well and her videos are usually long but i find myself fasicnated with what she has to say. Usually i skip over the ramblings of youtubers but not hers. She has the best style too, so classy yet edgy and modern. She shows a friday haul everyweek and haul videos are my fav, its like window shopping!
Jaclyn hill of course for her makeup reccomendations and tutorials

• Oh! Lolamarie7 has some amazing hair tutorials! She doesnt do many videos anymore but love her older hair vids

• KathleenLights on YouTube is so cute, talented, funny and down to earth. Just be yourself and you'll be amazing :)

• Mia @ MakeMeUpMia / website May 2, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Girl, you made my day. I can't wait to watch, you'll do great! Is Jaclyn Hill not THE best?!

• Go for it, everyone will love it! I would love to watch you put your makeup on starting with step 1. I'd also love to watch you do your hair with your soft waves. I really enjoy Barefootblonde, she's beautiful and likeable, just like you! Your makeup always looks so natural, please share tips on how to wear it and make it look natural. Also, you do smokey eyes so well. I'd love to see you do that with q-tips and all, just like me!

• #1 be yourself, we love You! Just make it happen and we will fall in love with whatever you do.

• I absolutly adore Carli Bybel!!

• I'd be happy for the videos quality doesn't matter to me!! Just as long as I get some idea of your style!!

• You always have the best make up and hair, I've been hoping you would start doing videos! I think you should do tutorials using your temptu.

• My favorite beauty blogger by far is Maskcara! I have learned so many wonderful techniques from her & she is never boring or annoying in her posts & always has the best energy! Would love to see your tutorials!

• You can totally do it, already looking forward to watching yours :) I love missglamorazzi, Carli bybel, fleur de force and many others. I think they started using the camera on their laptop too and then switched to a camera on a tripod which is what most use! Find somewhere in your house where you're comfortable and with good lighting and you'll be set. It just takes time and trial and error to get a setup that works for you :)

• Emily! You are so sweet! Thank you so much for sharing my blog! I know I'd be completely addicted to your channel if you started one. If anyone in the world knows how to look beautiful it's you. No question. I can't wait to see it.
Also, I'm a total novice when it comes to all the youtube stuff but if you do have any questions that I could help when, I'd me more than happy to!

• OMG! You have to check out Lauren Curtis. Her camera/lighting on her YouTube makeup tutorials is amazing!

• Tiffany D, hands down my fav. I have always been saying that I wish you would do YouTube. Maybe the only thing to invest in would be a good camera? I hope you follow this through, I can't wait. Just do it, Im pretty sure I can speak for everyone on here that we would all love to see you posting videos on a regular basis!

• How exciting I would love to follow you! I just started my channel in April because I get requests on well everything where you get this, what do you use, how do you do this, teach me to cook ha! \ I love the filming aspect of it and editing is fun too but its work! Just be yourself and your personality will shine through. My channel is stylebybare and I am uploading my second video as I type ~ Products I have Used Up / Empties. I wear a lot of Towne & Reese and your collection so expect to see some tags! :) Uploading on a consistent basis is the key, May is going to be my month of just cranking it out. Also engaging with your audience, answering questions etc is crucial. I hope you start a channel, I can't wait to subscribe!

• I would love to see you do some tutorials and hear about any tips you have for if and when you do! I've had my YouTube channel for about a year but haven't done any tutorials yet as I haven't figured out the best way to do it either! I've mainly just done health related videos, beauty reviews, fashion tips, etc. I did mention you, your blog, and the Dior Lip Glow in my April Favorites, though! Thanks so much for your wonderful blog and I know you can do anything you set your mind to!

• I recommend you get some Australaisan beauty you-tubers in your life! Chloe Morello, Shaaanxo and Lauren Curtis. Shan & Lauren's lighting set-ups are particularly great.

• I love Ingrid Nilsens, Zoellas and Tanya Burrs beauty + fashion videos.

• Hi Emily!
I like to watch celebrity makeup artist tutorials by:
Jamie Greenberg
Lisa Eldridge
Charlotte Tilbury
Monika Blunder

In addition the youtube artists:
Nicole Guerriero
Carli Bybel
Lauren Curtis
Pixiwoo
Teni - Miss Maven Dotcom
Shaanxo
Chloe Morello

• It would be great to see your beauty tutorials!

Tiffany D has great ones too and I find her videos/lighting/sound are high quality which makes them easy to watch as well. Love mm and l too, Maskcara of course.

Hair, makeup, product reviews are great. And tips for doing makeup while you're rushing out the door to take the kids to school! Aka the 5 min "Mom" face.

You'll be great!!! Can't wait to see!

• gossmakeupartist on youtube is great

• I think Kristina of Pretty Shiny Sparkly (youtube) has really nice lighting and camera quality. She would be a good one to ask.

I also love Lisa Eldridge, although she probably has a pretty pro set up. She shares a mixture of high and low end products and is always really helpful. Great pro tips, but also down to earth and accessible.

It would be great to see some of your tips and tutorials. Best of luck to you! :)

• (Sorry if this is a repost... I don't think my other post got through.)

• I would definitely watch your channel! I love MM&L show, Rachael Jade, Pixiwoo, Lisa Eldridge, Pinksofoxy, BrunetteBeautyBlogger and LisaLisaD1. All very fun to watch! My advice would be to work on some good lighting and a decent camera. All the fancy schmancy editing and stuff takes time. Get good lighting and a camera would be #1.

• I would love to see some of the makeup looks you had on The Bachelorette!

• Emily, you would be fabulous on YouTube! I love Kandee Johnson too. This video of hers might help you out - a video of how she makes her videos! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCQiXRMSzXQ

• Kandee J!

• You will do great, Emily! I think the best advice would be give true honest product reviews and tips as we know you will. It's so easy to put out what everyone else is doing, but you have your own unique creative outlook which will be wonderful for you to bring to Youtube! I wouldn't worry about reviewing something that is too expensive either because we all want our moneys worth and what's the point of buying 5 okay products if we could have put that all to one really awesome one?! You're sweet, creative, stylish, and to the point. All excellent qualities for a successful "Youtuber". Can't wait to subscribe!

~Heidi Kay

• First of all, I think you have everything it takes to make successful beauty videos. You are beautiful, kind, genuine, people look up to you (I know I do), and you have great taste.
All you still need is technical stuff: you should invest in a good camera, you can look up the ones beauty vloggers use. I know the Canon Rebel T3I is very popular. Also, you can invest in those big lamps that can make your lighting better (I guess that's optional, you can also use natural lighting!). A good quality video is always more enjoyable to watch.
I think that's all there is to it, really! I am sure you can be very good at it, and I know for sure I will never miss a video of yours. Don't be scared and just do it, I know you are capable of it.
Much love xx

xx

• Oh i would love to see your video tutorials Emily. They don't have to be perfect, go for it you'll be fab! :)

Ashleigh

• Hey Emily!! I think just realness is the best thing on a youtube channel. People will watch because they love you and want to see you and what you do in real life (Geeze did I say You enough?!)
I would rather watch someone in their bathroom counter who may smear their eyeliner and have to clean it up and start over than someone who is fake and just putting on a front. I like some of the tips and products that MML do but I don't like how they drag out videos with their antics, stick to what you are doing. I don't mind hearing about what is going on in the persons life or little funny stories while they are showing tips but I just don't need 20 minutes of giggling through a video my time is limited. I know you would do great and I really hope you do decide to take the plunge and do it!

• Hi Emily,
Can you do a video on your house/ home tour? I would love to see what interior decorating tips you have since you have such good taste.

• Please please please do make youtube videos! Who cares if we can see the bathroom, LOVE YOU and will love your tutorials too! :) your blog seriously makes my day <3

• I would love to watch you on YouTube, Emily! I admire your style and makeup, and you have the most amazing personality and charisma - I would follow your channel no matter how bad the lightning and sound in your bathroom would be on film, because you make me happy.
I am very into YouTube beauty channels, I think filming in HD and nice lightning is important. My favorites are Bubz beauty, So young's beauty room, Tanya Burr, Lisa Eldridge, Chloe Morello, Lauren Curtis, From Head To Toe, Charlotte Tilbury and Goss makeupartist.
Love from Europe

In this video Teni talk about how she started her super successful youtube channel (her videos on hair/make up/style are great too!!).

• PLEASE do it!!! I cannot tell you how many times I've looked up tutorials on youtube that are inspired by YOU! Just be yourself with your sweet charm and girly ways. Everyone will adore you and would be so thankful to get tips from one of the bests! xo

• Yes, Emily, please do this! Would love! :)

• Erin @ The Grass Skirt / website May 13, 2014 at 11:06 am

I am borderline obsessed with beauty YouTube videos. I think the quality depends largely on good lighting and editing. My favorites are MakeupByTiffanyD, Lisa Eldridge, Michele1218, and Fleur DeForce.
The Grass Skirt

• Please do videos Emily! I love Julia's blog videos from gal meets glam. She sets a camera up. Would love to see some makeup/hair videos! Just be yourself...it already shines through in your writing :)

• I would love to watch your videos!!! You just need a good quality camera and be good at editing your videos! I hope to see you on youtube one day! You can do room tour, closet tour, your everyday or glam make up, a typical day with Emily, DIY, healthy recipes etc!!

• there will be haters as always but I know more people will love you even more :)

Michelle Money has a fun youtube video (M M & L show), Lo Bosworth, Thatsheart has cute videos etc

• Hi, Emily! I would watch your videos if you made your own youtube channel. Most girls on youtube started by making pretty easy tutorials not making such big deals about it. The lighting was horrible and the camera was pretty bad. As you go on, you will learn new tricks and tips for every video you put up and it will eventually turn out quite professional. Don't make such a big deal about it! We care about the tips! Just get a good camera and show us the details, shorten the video as much as you can and make it easy for us :) Also, check out Michelle Phan who is very professional! I don't know if you have heard about her or not, but she's very good and her videos are always entertaining. She has a lot of close ups and use a good lightning. The day light is always a good source og lightning ;) I also love Promise Phan and Kandee Johnson! AndreasChoice is also amazing :) They have amazing tips! But if you want to make professional vieeos, look at Michelle. She has the most pro videos although I love watching all of the channels I've mentioned! Don't be afriad to make mistakes, because I know you will get a lot of views, anyways :) Every girl on youtube had to start somewhere and progress! :) Good luck to you!
Ps: please make videos about your nails and what nail polishes and treatments you use!

• tati from the glamlifeguru youtube channel is a great one to watch and learn from her!

• Would love if you did any type of tutorial video on how you style your hair, your daily makeup routine, etc.!!! That would be so awesome!!

• I would die if you started a channel!! Your are so beautiful!! I love watching Carli Bybel. And NunuBabyLove by far does the most perfect makeup!

• Hi Emily!
I absolutely LOVE pixiwoo's makeup tutorials on YouTube. They are a pair of sisters who are makeup artists from England and they do amazing things! They do everything from trending runway makeup to videos on their favorite foundations. Plus, they have great stores about happenings in their lives. Hope this helps!

• I would LOVE to see you do YouTube videos! That would be awesome! I promise they get easier the more you do them! I have a channel myself!

PS I love Jaclyn Hill, Kandee Johnson and of course MMandL!!!!!

• I would subscribe to you ! Go for it! We will all be behind you ! I love pixiwoo , Tanya burr , Sharon Farrell & Tati and a whole bunch more ! Hope to see u on there soon !

• I would watch all of your videos!! I think the trick is good lighting and a nice camera! Also, let your personality shine!
